Does Hollywood's Coolsculpt Fat Freezing Work?

Image
Any bride seeking to look good for her big day will surely want to lose some weight, but I've not had much success despite exercising regularly. The most frustrating part would be watching how bloated my tummy became after every meal; I certainly didn't want a protruding tummy in my gown on my wedding day! I've tried some slimming treatments in the past (you can search them on my blog) but many of them didn't work. Thus, when I saw that my doctor, Dr. Ng Hong Yi, offered Coolsculpting in his clinic, I decided to give it a shot. Touted as Khloe Kardashian's secret to her enviable figure was enough to spike my interest. I also read more reviews here before deciding to go ahead with the procedure. Originally from the U.S., there has since been imitation machines coming out in the market, but Zeltiq Coolsculpt is the most trusted brand among doctors and medical practitioners. It is a medical device and should only be done in a doctor's office to be safe. How does Co...

How to get FREE money for ang baos you'll have to give out during CNY

Image
Aside from the food, blackjack and family reunions, my favourite part of Chinese New Year includes receiving my annual ang baos (red packets filled with money - a Chinese New Year tradition in Singapore). After all, who doesn't like free money?! With the wedding just around the corner, this year's CNY visitations were particularly significant as it marked the last time I can get my ang baos. After we're married, we'll need to start giving out ang baos instead - so that means every CNY henceforth will be an immediate deficit in our wallets. Seeing all the children get so much in ang bao money made me wonder - what if they had savvy parents who knew how to invest their money for them, so that they never had to fork out a single cent for future ang baos after they get married in the future? Photo credit:  The Singapore Women's Weekly Let's imagine this scenario plays out: 1. You get $400 in ang baos every year from your family, relatives and parents' friends. 2...

Women In Investing - Interviewing Lauren Templeton

Image
Warren Buffett. Benjamin Graham. Peter Lynch. Philip Fisher. George Soros. John Templeton. Where are the females among the world's most recognised investment legends?   A look at Investopedia's list of the world's greatest investors shows that there's none. Among the money managers, only 2% of hedge funds are run by women, although a large percentage of them are in the top performers of the last 10 years.  One of them is Lauren Templeton. As the great-niece of respected investor Sir John Mark Templeton, Lauren grew up learning about investing as a young girl, and benefited personally from her Uncle John, whom she described as "strict but very kind" whenever he taught her. She shared about how she used to have really weird meeting appointments scheduled with him, such as from 2.17pm to 2.48pm, and that the atmosphere was really tense because she could just feel the limited time she had with him. On one occasion during a meeting with him, he slid across her prin...

Are Laser Facial Treatments Worth the Hype?

Image
With laser treatments becoming increasingly popular these days, a friend of mine asked me if I thought it was worth the hype.  I've always thought facials were a waste of money, especially when you can DIY at home, but laser facials?  With the advancements in technology, I don't believe that there isn't a solution for skincare problems today. Although I've known of lasers since a decade ago, the technology back then was still fairly new, and so costs were extremely exorbitant as well. Thankfully, with lasers becoming more common today, costs have become a lot more affordable and anyone with skincare issues no longer need to spend an arm or a leg before they can seek treatment.  Most facial treatments go like this: cleanse --> exfoliate --> extraction --> mask --> toner --> serum --> moisturiser. You can easily replicate that at home. In fact, for the cost of your 10-session facial package, you can buy the products outside yourself which costs you lesse...

2017 (Monthly) Money Saving Challenge

Image
Now that a brand new year has started, this is the time where many people typically decide to improve their personal finances as part of their New Year's resolutions. One popular savings challenge that has been attempted for many years is the classic 52 week money challenge: Week 1: Save $1 Week 2: Save $2 Week 10: Save $10 Week 30: Save $30 Week 52: Save $52 By the end of the year, you would have saved an extra $1,378.  While I think this is a great way to get started on your savings, I'm not the biggest fan of this particular challenge because why settle for $1.3k when you can save far more? How about joining me on a 12-month transformation instead to transform your finances? I promise to keep it easy for you to follow. (The relevant links are tagged for your additional reading.) January :  Put your holiday bonus to good use! Use one-third of the money to reward yourself, another one-third to pay off your debt, and put the rest in your savings. If you didn't get a bonus i...
